These highback chairs with the crest rail showing an official's hat style but without armrests emphasise their unadorned appearance and exquisite proportion. It reveals the essence of Ming period (1368CE - 1644CE) design artistry.

The double curved back support and the headrest on the crest rail provide seating comfort.

There are traces of black lacquer and lacquer reinforcements on the seat. They are indicative of the age of the chairs.  Pairs of these chairs are now rare.
