Rectangular stools with bottom stretchers

Origin: Shandong province

  • elm wood
  • 450mm wide x 330mm deep x 510mm high

These rectangular stools have very simple lines, yet they are elegantly moulded and proportioned. There are convex and concave contrasting mouldings on the apron under the seat. The legs are mitred forming a curved inner face and narrow downwards taper. The stretcher towards the base enhances the structural strength and reveals the slight taper of the legs. Finally, the horse hoof feet complement the overall design. The lacquer is completely worn from the top of the stretcher by the countless number of feet that have rested on them.
