Artist’s Statement:
I came across this pedestrian bridge in Queensland. It was painted a dull brown and was a most unassuming structure, in what I thought was a joyful setting. By changing the brown to red, it gave the structure a more important and spiritual feel. The bridge fulfilled its utilitarian function but I thought it needed to look more significant in its lush environment. I imagined that it could transport people to much loftier places. By rubbing over the surface of concrete, timber, sticks and a variety of plants I was able to achieve the desired effect. I hope the bridge takes you to somewhere magical too.
