Beautiful and practical feature piece. The top is generously sized to hold a lamp and other daily use objects. The drawers are long and deep, remove them to reveal hidden storage within the table.
The front has detailed, fine carving. The drawers have dragons, symbol of the emperor representing strength and authority. The panel underneath has bats surrounding a long life symbol and denotes an idiomatic expression “Five bats touching long life”. The bats represent the Five Blessings of happiness, good health, long life, love of virtue and a peaceful death. Flanking this are deer and cranes, also symbols of long life.
